Ivy Bridge Will Bring a 35W Quad-Core i7by Anand Lal Shimpi on September 13, 2011 12:03 PM EST

Earlier this year Intel revealed its mobile Sandy Bridge lineup, including a slew of 45W quad-core Core i7 SKUs. Next year Ivy Bridge will expand the range to include a 35W quad-core Core i7 SKU. Shaving off 10W off the TDP should enable somewhat smaller notebooks to enjoy the benefits of a quad-core CPU. Apple in particular is limited to 35W in its 13-inch MacBook Pro chassis, we may see a quad-core option in the 2012 13-inch Ivy Bridge MacBook Pro as a result.

iwodo - Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - linkI would rather they double the EU from 16 to 32 then having a Quad Core CPU.
silverblue - Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - linkPerhaps, but I still wonder about the bandwidth limits of such a design when a) the CPU is as powerful as it is, and b) Intel will likely allow the CPU to spread its legs as opposed to the GPU. Llano takes an opposing approach which is probably wise considering the weaker CPU.
A 35W quad-core CPU is very impressive; I imagine it'd be around the 2.4GHz mark with a max turbo of about 3.4GHz, therefore very much like the 2820QM but using a good deal less juice.
Intel is getting these announcements in at the right time. Shame AMD can't play by the same rules.
Denithor - Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - link"Spread" its legs?
I think you meant "stretch" its legs...
silverblue - Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - linkOops... don't read anything into that, it's been a long day. ;)

doylecc - Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - linkOr, perhaps, "spread its wings." <L>
Gondalf - Tuesday, September 13, 2011 - linkUseless :). Ivy GPU will be neck to neck with Mobile Liano.....moreover 32 EU means a lot of power consumption and a low clocked CPU to stay in the Tdp.
Do you need of a faster graphic?? buy a laptop with upcoming 28nm Mobile Gpus from Ati or Nvidia :)
