Hmm. So one interesting point is that while this card is overall slower and still retains the 128-bit memory bus, the actual memory bandwidth is reduced since they're using slower GDDR6. That alleviates one concern I had about this card, which was that it would be even more enticing to miners since it's cheaper with the same memory bandwidth as the 6600 XT.
I'm sure someone will still mine on it. But it won't be a 6800 situation where the most affordable card also has the best mining performance.
Lets face it, at this point it doesn't matter how fast it is or is not. It will be nearly impossible to find. Global supply chain issues, high demand from miners, and high demand from gamers.
They were out of stock within 5 minutes of being made available. At this point it wouldn't surprise me if we ever see GPUs at MSRP ever again. All that is needed to be done is have bots suck up all the supply and then resell at higher prices.
All GPU's are essentially available in Australia, just with excessive price inflation.
I bought my Radeon 6600 XT for $699 AUD... But I sold my old 2017 Radeon RX 580 for $550 AUD. And the vanilla 6600 released at $699... I think I got the better deal honestly.
Right now the 6600XT has inflated to $940 AUD... So I could probably make a profit selling my current card and gun for a 6700XT instead.
eBay needs to stop the army of 0 feedback bidders pushing prices up. That would be a lovely start. Then, Amazon should enforce a policy that NO card be sold above the rrp. Done. Fake price hike over with. Maybe.
"This card is slower than a 2060 at 4k resolution!" I find that hard to believe since it is only 1fps slower than the 5600XT across Tomshardware 9 game average at 4k. Based on the 5600XT scores in 1440p it appears that they are using the Sapphire Pulse card which had the BIOS update for better performance than the 2060.
After further review at 4k Ultra Tom's included the 2060 and it had a 0.4fps average lead, however, the 2060 wasn't included in the 4k medium. Neither of these are 4k cards though.
Don't blame coronavirus, blame 1080p and consoles. RX 580 at sub-$200 was good enough to play just about anything at 1080p, so they just stopped making them. And to be honest I'm fine with it, I'm not going to complain about a $100 price increase. Soon these GPU companies will have to compete with game streaming providers as well (5-10 years?)
Markets in all industries are experiencing shortages and skyrocketing prices right now. Now I'm not saying correlation equals causation, but I'm also not NOT saying that either.
Interesting perspective on "competition" - where do you think the streaming companies get the GPUs to render the games? It's two sides of the same coin.
Old people might remember a time when "normal" video cards sold even below MSRP, and at MSRP you had things like more/larger fans, more/larger heat sinks, better power delivery/overclocking potential.
Nope. MSRP includes the suggested retailer markup. That is the definition of this initialism. I think what you meant is it isn’t a mandatory selling price.
It'd be nice to have an in-depth review (or to be able to compare them with Bench) to know for sure. Alas, it was a different time, it was a tech site with a different mission.

I mean if etailers really cared, they could just cap to 1 GPU per month per shipping address. More challenging to hoover up supply that way.damianrobertjones - Thursday, October 14, 2021 - link

What's the point of reviewing new GPUs if you can't really buy them, unless you're willing to put down a mortgage on one?Maybe once GPUs become more widely available again, sometime in a galaxy far far away, we can get back to GPU reviews.

MSRP has never meant Retail price. MSRP is what the manufacturer suggest they cost. Retailers can list them for whatever they want.Makaveli - Wednesday, October 13, 2021 - link

Thsi thing is the same speed as a 5600xt, which launched at $279 2 years ago, and was not particularly good value at the time.AMD got greedy.

But is it AMD which got greedy? Or was it TSMC? Or is it simply hyperinflation, like all groceries are +50-300% in the stores?Welcome to the 3rd world. Nobody lowers salaries to get us there, Democrats simply devalued our money.
