Resources must be pretty tight or you guys wouldn't have sold yourselves to Purch. Here's some free advice: leave articles like this on the cutting room floor and put those scarce resources to use on the things Anandtech is known for and good at.
For Christ's sake, if i want video game news i go to a video game news outlet not a hardware analysis outlet. You're wasting time and resources on this when you explained in your buyout article you have very little of both, so stop wasting time and resources on this and go review or analyze some damn hardware.
Making an ass of myself? Nah dog, maybe if they hadn't starting diverting resources away from what they do best six months ago into pointless articles like these they wouldn't have had to whore themselves out to Purch? I'm just giving some free advice to a publication that by their own admission seems to need it: When resources are tight don't waste them on shit i can get from a million other places.
When you just spin into denial, and keep digging that hole, after someone points out that you've made an ass of yourself, you'll never, ever grow out of being an ass.
How did i make an ass of myself? No where in the original comment did i mention -when- they had started posting these articles, only that they're wasting their resources by doing so, so i'm not sure why three people have replied acting as if i had. The only one making an ass of themselves are the ones erecting straw men and then tearing them down (that'd be you, WW, and Fit).
This is another example of why you're unable to grow out of being an ass. What Anandtech chooses to use their resources on has absolutely nothing to do with you, but for whatever reason you can't sense that, so you make an ass of yourself, and refuse to learn or improve in any way. It's sad,and what I expect from the arrogant yahoos at Slashdot, but not here.
For the most part, I'm of the more the merrier when it comes to reviews and content. I do agree there's not really any original content here. Doesn't even link to the metacritic pages.
Still, I was curious if there is anything worthwhile in games for gold yet, and from my point of view, there isn't.
Gotta love when someone steps out of the cave they've been in for 6 months and then instantly gets outraged at the first trivial thing they see. I enjoy these articles. Keep up the good work guys.
They've been doing this for quite a while now. I happen to enjoy these articles. Just because you find no use in them, doesn't mean others don't. If you don't like it/it doesn't apply to you then don't read. I don't find much interest in the NAS stuff they review, but it doesn't mean I jump in and complain that they shouldn't cover NAS solutions..
Hmm.. some harsh criticism.. anyway, I am a computer enthusiast and long time Anandtech reader and certainly don't mind articles like this popping up from time to time. The writers are active, vocal and receptive to the criticism and praise they receive I think and do their best to present us with a little bit of diversity that's relevant to the anandtech take on things.
This is one of my stops each day so all I can really say is thanks guys for keeping me interested all these years. Hope you have a safe and happy holiday season.
@Alarcard: I think you have it backwards. In my view it's more likely that they started doing these articles six months ago in order to make themselves a more attractive acquisition target as opposed to these articles draining resources which necessitated the acquisition. There may even have been some negotiations with Purch or other leads along the lines of Purch wanting them to add content like this before they considered a purchase.
Regardless, i can't say i'm thrilled about these articles but it's not my call. Bottom line: if Anandtech transforms into the likes of THG i'll quit coming around, if not i'll stick around, and i doubt Anandtech really gives a damn either way at this point. They have new masters now.
That's a very good point. Back during negotiations i'm sure Anandtech was doing whatever it could to improve and expand its SEO rankings in order to improve its attractiveness/bargaining position.
If you were to ask me what the best way to do that would be the first thing that would pop into my head would probably be 'games'. So here we are with games.
THG is very highly ranked in SEO, they come up at the top or near the top of most tech searches. Given that, they can survive and thrive regardless of the quality of their content because people tend to click on the first link they see. So given that they can generate ad revenue regardless of quality, their quality has naturally gone to shit. I mean why spend money on creating great content when your SEO ranking ensures you make tons of money no matter what you publish?
So THG has gone to hell, and Anandtech has just been purchased by the same company that sent them there. Oh, and now Anandtech has games too, because when someone searches google for games Anandtech wants to be in result list too.
We've seen this movie before, we know how it ends. Best of luck Anandtech, i hope you can prove my cynicism wrong.
While that is a great story I can tell you outright that's not the case at all. I find this interesting, so I post about it. I do a post for both consoles. Feedback has been mixed but more positive than negative so I've kept at it. You'll likely not believe me but that is the case.
Anyway I'm glad you are reading them and hope you have a great holiday season!
Thanks for the article Brett, was looking at D4: Dark Dreams Don’t Die but didn't buy it because decent number of games came out for Xbox One recently, so will be nice to finally add a good game to Xbox one games with gold collection.

The Witcher 2 is a pretty good and expansive game to get included with Xbox Live.tipoo - Tuesday, December 23, 2014 - link
The Witcher 2 seems pretty sweet for a free with Gold game, I guess that makes up for The Raven which was just one episode of a game.just4U - Wednesday, December 24, 2014 - link
